BEETHOVEN'S SYMPHONY NO.5
EXPLORE THE LIMITLESS BOUNDARIES OF THE HUMAN VOICE
The professional ensemble Cantabile is going to present a journey of a cappella on Tuesday 7th March 2017 at 8:00 PM, Hong Kong City Hall – Concert Hall, performing Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 (a cappella version) and Historic Tour of a cappella. This concert will allow the audience to listen to this classic work in a way that they have never experienced before!
Apart from Beethoven, we will also explore the different genres of a cappella ranging from Gregorian chants to folk songs from various countries, and even some ABBA! The audience will be able to listen how the singing style and tone colour changes between genres.
In this concert, Cantabile will take the audience on a journey in an interesting and easy to understand attitude, even if you have no musical knowledge or background. The exploration of human voice and its possibilities are the essence of the concert, and why we feel an instant connection when we hear a person sings. The concert will be a new interpretation of Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 performed with human voices only. Have you ever experienced a Beethoven symphony without instruments? ABOUT CANTABILE
Founded in 2016 by Artistic and Music Director Philip Chu, Cantabile is a new professional ensemble made up of talented local musicians in Hong Kong. It aims to embrace the audience with a wide range of high quality music as well as new ideas about performances.
Cantabile provides both a performance and training platform for local talented musicians who wish to pursue a career in the music industry. All musicians will be given opportunities to gain experience through rehearsing and performing in a friendly environment, along with other professional musicians. Cantabile also values education, it aims to provide the public a chance to acquire in depth knowledge on music appreciation and performance skills via workshops and masterclasses. Music has various effects on people, and Cantabile explores this variety together with people who simply enjoy music making.

ABOUT PHILIP CHU
Born in Hong Kong, Philip Chu studied voice and conducting at University of Sydney and Sydney Conservatorium of Music respectively. He has worked with ensembles such as The Metropolitan Opera, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Macau Symphony Orchestra, Cantillation, Pinchgut Opera, Sydney Philharmonic Choirs amongst others. As a chorusmaster, he has prepared various choirs for conductors such as Lorin Mazzel, Jaap van Zweden, Charles Dutoit, Gianluigi Gelmetti amongst others.
Apart from the classical music field, Philip has also worked extensively in other music fields, ranging from Hollywood film scores to computer games’ music. He was part of the music creation team of some of the most popular games series such as World of Warcraft, Diablo, Soul Calibur and Final Fantasy.
Philip is currently chorusmaster for HK Phil, and formed the professional ensemble Cantabile in 2016.

Cantabile 將於本年三月七日星期二晚上八時正假 香港大會堂 – 音樂廳,藉著音樂會《貝多芬第五交響曲》,帶您走進一個前所未見的無伴奏合唱旅程!
除了貝多芬的樂曲,我們亦會探索不同類型的無伴奏合唱,從格林高利聖歌至民謠,甚至是ABBA的音樂! 觀眾將能夠聽到歌唱風格和音色在不同類型音樂中的奇妙變化。

關於 Cantabile
藝術及音樂總監朱俊熹先生於二零一六年成立專業樂團Cantabile,成員都是來自香港本地富有才華的音樂愛好者,希望能為觀眾帶來不同範疇的高質素音樂和構思新穎的表演方式。
Cantabile為追求發展音樂事業的團員提供演出及培訓平台,成員可在輕鬆和睦的氣氛下排練和表演,並可藉著與其他專業音樂家的相互合作而汲取經驗。 Cantabile亦相當重視教育,希望透過工作坊和大師班,讓普羅大眾有機會獲得有關音樂鑑賞及表演技巧的知識。 音樂予人有各式各樣的影響,Cantabile期待能跟其他同樣享受音樂的知音人一起探索箇中樂趣。

關於朱俊熹
生於香港的朱俊熹分別於悉尼大學及悉尼音樂學院修讀聲樂和指揮。他曾與多個音樂團體合作,其中包括大都會歌劇院、東京愛樂樂團、悉尼交響樂團、墨爾本交響樂團、昆士蘭交響樂團、香港管弦樂團、澳大利亞布蘭登堡管弦樂團、澳門交響樂團、Cantillation、皮奇古特歌劇院、悉尼愛樂合唱團等。作為合唱團團長,他曾為馬捷爾、梵志登、杜特華、謝敏替等指揮大師的演出擔任合唱指導。
除了古典音樂,他也活躍於其他音樂領域,包括為荷李活電影和電子遊戲配樂,曾參與創作的遊戲系列包括《魔獸世界》、《暗黑破壞神》、《劍魂》及Final Fantasy。
他目前是香港管弦樂團的合唱團團長,並於二零一六年創立了專業樂團Cantabile。
